The Legend of Spyro
The Double-Jointed Dragon
Trial by Fire: Part 4 Fire Council

    “Wait, Where is Sparx?”

One second of silence, then two, then three and finally…

“AAAAHHHH!!!!” And enters Sparx from the roof of the cavern. A portion of the roof that had a small quick moving stream of water coming from it and heading into the small lake.

A few in the group face palmed meanwhile Cynder sighed, “There he is, and ten gems say Marshal is right behind him.”

Harild was actually the one to counter, “Sucker’s bet.”

Cynder looked at him with a raised eyeridge, like he was crazy, then came the sound of a muffled explosion. All who heard looked to the source and those that did not hear looked because others looked.

What they saw was the area where Sparx came from had cracks forming and had water seeping out of it. And then in a load boom and quick actions all of the rock burst forth, Marshal came flying out with it, and a battering ram of water came down.

All of this hit the small lake at once. The rocks and Marshal did not do much than cause ripples to spread forth. But the extra water did. The flowing water quickly filled up the lake and then started to flow down channels that led all over the cavern. Soon all the channels and places for the water were full and anymore inbound water started to cause an over flow. Thankfully the edge of the cavern had places that allowed the water to leave, so there was a constant flow of water entering and exiting the cavern. And the newly formed hole still had the same flow coming from it and thanks to the dynamics of the tunnels there was little chance of the flow ever becoming less.

It would take a bit for everyone to realize this; in the meantime they all stared at the landing zone of Marshal, the lake.

When Marshal came up from under the water he also had Sparx on his head. His armor looked like it had seen better days but him personally and Sparx looked sound. After he had come up, Marshal swung his head getting a look at where he was. It was shocking to him to say the least. And when he saw the crowd at the shore, he became even more shocked.

Marshal first thought of swimming to the shore to greet the crowd, then decided otherwise. He shifted his wings up and then called for some wind to lift him. It was not as easy as when on land, but he was able to do it. Once in the air, he shot up quickly and attained the level he wanted. With only partial course correction, Marshal was easily heading towards rejoining the group. Sparx was clinging to Marshal’s horn so he was along for the ride.

The crowd at the shore made some room for Marshal to land, it almost was not enough. Yet he landed well enough to not crash.

Figuring it was the best thing to do, Marshal walked through the crowd, which sort of parted before him, to where he had seen his fellows. It was a short walk really, but it seemed to take much longer thanks to all those watching him. He did get to the group quickly though.

The first of the shocked group to speak was Georgia, “Are you making it a habit to perform strange, awe inspiring acts that can also be described as dramatic entrances?”

Marshal blinked for a few seconds then came back with, “Don’t blame me, my luck just works that way.”

All he got were eye rolls in response.

Der Riese looked rather confused as to what was going on so he tried to clarify, “Does this sort of thing happen often?”

Luanda was the first to sigh, “We haven’t been together as a group long, but strange happenings like to happen to us.”

“Um…Alright, well you somehow solved both our problems as well as your own. You either have the favor of the ancestors or are extremely lucky.”

“I’ll bet luck, our interactions with more powerful beings haven’t always been nice.”

“Sparx, shut up.” Cynder also glared at the lantern with a good “death” glare who shrugged it off without a second thought.

Marshal, along with most of the group, chuckled, but he also decided to talk. “Well now that things seem to be dealt with (even if I did not know about it at the time), or at least partially figured out, do you think we can move on and figure out all we want to do?”

Der Riese gave a nod, “I believe so. And I think, at least from what I’ve seen and the information you have, I can get you seen by the elders directly now. Especially and mostly because our water problem is no solved.”

A simple nod in thanks and understanding and Der Riese was leading the group into a building and through halls. It seemed that the crowd from outside was also following, most likely interested in what else was about to happen.

The walk was simple and quiet and before long they were lead into what could be called a “council chamber.” There were not many “elders” there, but those that were, were all at the center around a Pool of visions. The pool was easy to identify by the designs on it otherwise you would have thought it was just a pool of water.

When the group came in, Der Riese stopped the Young Guardians and waited as the crowd gathered around the room in the seating areas there. The wait seemed rather long for there were a lot of dragons and while waiting the elders appeared to be eyeing the Young Guardians. The looks seemed a bit creepy, but more analyzing. And they looked at the whole group the same way, though one or two were looking at Spyro and Cynder with looks that resembled familiarity.

When everyone had taken a seat, Der Riese gave the group a nod and moved towards the elders. The group took the nod as a sign to continue and followed Der Riese, no one stopped them or made any motion or sound in reaction so it was most likely the right thing to have done.

Once in the center the group sort of gathered around the open parts of the center all looking at the elders.

The Elder directly across from them, who seemed to also be the leader, looked at the group when he spoke, “It has been a long time since I have seen a group like yours. Not since the end of the Ape Wars have a mixed mashed group like your own, a mix of the elements in one place, then add in two others, an odd sight indeed. Then you also have one with a troubled past, another with a pained existence, one with weight of the world and many on their shoulders, one with an uncomfortable home, one with the pride of the family in them, one with the pride of none yet looking for it, one who seeks to show more then they look, one who seeks to be understood, one who seeks to be heard, one who refuses to show they are weak and finally one who refuses to leave and is always there. And odd group in these troubled times. Which makes one wonder, what is it that brings you all here?”

One, then two blinks in pure shock. The group knew the elder had spoken about each one of them, but any one of them could have related to them, but only those that knew themselves could know which one was which exactly.

But they had to move on, so Marshal responded, “We came in hopes of finding survivors of Malefor’s wrath. For while the world is still a dangerous place, having those that survived banded together again will allow even more to survive. What was said seemed to catch several dragons’ attention, so Marshal figured he could continue. “We came from the Dragon City, she is still standing. She is beat and damaged but repairs are progressing quickly. And Warfang is not along, another city called War’s Shield stands proud and Resilient and they say they know of even more cities. We were sent in search of the rumored Elemental Tribes, we have hopes of the dragons of the world getting back in contact so that we can all help each other understand and respond to any situation that may come down the road.”

There was silence in the room after that little speech. From what it seemed like though, several of the dragons seemed excited about what was said. But others seemed skeptical.

One of the elders was such a person, she half glared at Marshal as she spoke, “Such a nice speech. But how can you prove it.”

Another elder looked at the one who just spoke, “Flare, do you not know see what they wear?! It is the Ancient Armor of the tribes! Have you forgotten the properties of those ancient pieces?”

Flare turned and glared at the one who just spoke, “Even the Ancient Armors can be tricked. And he stands with one that once hunted us. I refuse to accept what this dragon says until he can show us proof.” And with that all eyes were back on the Young Guardians.

Marshal was starting to look concerned for he did not have any way to prove what he had said was true. Yet before another creature said anything the lead elder spoke. ”They speak the truth, it is in the way they speak. And always remember, this young one is not the same as that abomination. Even HE knew that.”

Flare flinched at that last line, “Fine, the rest still stands.”

The Elder sighed, “Fine, if you want Evidence…I know of a way. Who among you can use the Pool of Visions?”

Marshal got a bit of a shocked look on his face and looked at Spyro who simply look confused. Marshal shrugged his shoulders and stepped forward, Spyro stepped up after him in an almost automatic motion.

The Lead Elder smiled lightly, “Well then, both of you step up to the pool and think of what you want to see in the world but also show the room. If the pool accepts your need and power it will show what you wish.”

A short nod and the two stepped closer. Marshal stopped just short and motioned for Spyro to continue.

With a breath, Spyro stepped up and pot a paw on the rim of the pool. There was no reaction for a bit and the creatures started to become disappointed. Then the pool started to glow. It was white at first then it changed to purple and from the pool came a purple haze that formed into the shape of a dragon standing on its hind legs, its wings outstretched and its arms facing upward holding what looked like a world in its paws. It had changed into what was previously figured as Spyro’s crest.

With the Symbol fully formed (several gasped from the sight), and so little time afterwards passing, the globe of the crest started to change into a sort of moving picture.

The image showed Warfang, a real time image from the look of it too. You could see where all the dragons and moles and foxes were. You could see the work they were doing, the repairs being made, and so much more.

The image was up for barely enough time for everyone there to realize it was there and see what it was before it stopped suddenly. The figure quickly dissipated immediately afterwards. When it did such a thing, all looked to Spyro to find out what happened, and found him panting and looking extremely worn out. Cynder was instantly concerned and by his side. He had to lean on her so he could keep standing, not that ether of them minded the contact.

The Lead Elder smiled lightly and warmly, “Thank you young one, I am sorry as well. I forgot how much something like that can take out of one. But I think what you showed should be enough. Though if anyone has any other doubts…” He turned his head and looked at Marshal as no one spoke but him, “…Do you think you could get in contact with someone who can confirm you personally.”

Marshal nodded and stepped up to the pool. He did the same thing Spyro did, but the response was noticeably faster.

Less than the second after Marshal touched the pool it started glowing. This time, from the pool came a grey-white light then what seemed like a stream of wind moved across the water of the pool. It then formed into a figure, it came and went so fast the best you could make out was a globe of some form. As the glob quickly disappeared the pool went into what the Young Guardians had started to call “Video call” function.

The first thing that came through, even bore the image was able to form all the way, was the quick voice of Volteer.

“…And we can positively confirm that this road is a great way to…”

Whatever was going to come out was interrupted by a different voice, and it sounded like Ice, “Oh, hey look. The pool is changing. That you kids?”

Marshal shook his head lightly before responding, “Yes sir, and I think you will be a little happy to know that the rumors are true.”

By this point the image had finished forming and now showed the meeting room in War’s Shield along with the Guardians and the leaders of said city.

The silence in the room was defining, but the other side of the call was more active thankfully.

Jone near instantly had his eyes trailed on Marshal and was easily able to notice the condition of his armor, “Not getting into much trouble I hope.”

Marshal sighed, he could tell his dad was teasing him, “Come on dad, when has my luck ever been kind.”

“True, then no injuries that won’t heal?”

“I’m good, the armor held up very well, of which I am grateful for.”

Jone nodded and looked at Terrador, who gave a nod back in understanding. He then looked towards the Elders. “Hello, I am Terrador Guardian of Earth and Current leader of the Guardians. As well as Representative of the Guardians for the Warfang Council. Can I assume you are the leaders for your group?”

The Lead Elder gave a nod, “Well met mighty Guardian, you assume correctly. We had your Young Representatives contact you in tis method so that we may confirm their story.”

Terrador gave another nod, “That is understandable. It was difficult making the decision to send several so young, but that group there with you are leaders, warriors, and have already proven themselves in multiple ways.”

The Elder smiled knowingly, “I understand. I would enjoy continuing to talk, but I am sure this connection is draining for the young dragon holding it, and we both have things that need dealt with.
“In time we will send our own to you. But until then the Pools of Vision will cover, for once a connection is made a network starts and when a pool is connected to a pool on that network, it becomes a part of that network. This allows one to reconnect to any pool on that network without a User providing the power.”

Terrador gave a nod in understanding, “We understand and thank you. I hope you treat the young ones we sent well and wish you luck as you continue in life.”

“Same to you might one.” The Elder then turned to Marshal, “You may release the connection now.”

Marshal first nodded in response, and then he looked at the pool, concentrated a little bit an d suddenly the pool started to fade back what a Pool of visions normally look like.

When it was back to normal there was a happy edge to the room. The Leader noticed it instantly, so he looked to the room. “You all saw it, Warfang remains, and the main land is recovering from the war. Will we Join them!?” There as a general sound of approval from the crowd. “That is what I thought. We have much to do and figure out, but let left for another time. For now, let us prepare a feast in honor of what happened today and for our guests. Let us make them feel welcomed for they have already done so much to help us!”

The roars of approval in response was all that was needed.
A situation much like the last chapter. This is not the final version, I still have the massive rewrite ongoing, of which I have made progress. But I wanted to get some more of what I had found time to write in old downtime out of paper and out to you so that you could see and review. I can't say if I like this chapter too much or not, it is alright all things considered, but I don't really know. I feel like I am moving too slowly again, but that may change and again this may change. I do have more written down, I just need to find the time to transfer it over to digital, it is just a heck of a lot. But do not fret, I will get to it!

Now story...mostly political moving, and personality/character showings. And other such stuff, Remember this is subject to change eventually and most likely it all depends on what I modify way back in the story.

I do still have room for OCs somehow. Heck, if I ever get the next chapter out you will be seeing another OC that is not mine pop up, and this guy adds some good bits. Goes to show I am still making room.

Trial by Fire: Part 3 The Tunnels
The fireball and explosion had been jarring, but then the shape of a fully grown dragon standing in the spot above the youngling had been shocking. Yet not shocking enough to stop the group. They had been expecting something, something this violent was only enough to shock them.
Once they had seen the new arrival all in the group went into a defensive stance, except Sparx of course. Sparx merely and comfortably hovered next to Spyro enjoying the show.
It took a few short minutes for the smoke to clear completely allowing both “parties” to see each other. The group found themselves looking at a single dragon with a large, curvy bone-plate curving out from the back of his head, as it is part of his head. He also had two golden, curved designs on both of his shoulders that glow faintly. His tail ends with nothing, it’s just a tail. His body is a Plati
